(Bad Hon) Good Friday

God-Dad, I’ve screwed it up again. Forgive me. I keep letting this stupid crap kill me. A little bit at a time, but I’m dying all the same. Help me again, to walk this path of grace and mercy. Help me to remember that I’m dying… each day I live, is one day closer to death. May I choose to die each day for you. Each day, to pick up my cross and follow after you. Thank you for what you’ve done so far, but don’t stop, I’ve got my eyes open and seeing this evil in my heart. Take it out. Bring out the scapel and cut that black thing out. I’m tired. May your will be done. In Jesus name, Amen

I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.

John 12:23-25 (NIV)

“According to the Bible, marriage is not primarily about our self-esteem and personal fulfillment, nor is it just one lifestyle option among others. The Bible is clear in presenting a picture of marriage that is rooted in the glory of God made evident in creation itself. The man and the woman are made for each other and the institution of marriage is given to humanity as both opportunity and obligation…”

“I shared with those who attended the conference my concern that this delay — the deliberate putting off of marriage even among some who intend some day to be married — was ‘the sin I think besets this generation.’ Continuing, I also made clear that this is primarily a problem that should be laid at the feet of young men….”

“I stand by my argument — renewed in this conviction even by the controversy that has followed. At the same time, I’m going to be a good bit more careful to make clear that young men must accept most of the blame for this situation. I will also remind these young men that, armed with a biblical mandate and fueled by Christian passion, they can also be the vanguard for recovery.”

ah no dude. i dont mind at all. it’s just that i met a bunch of gcc people lately cause i visited a couple of times, and i just thought we might have. i just met ed recently too when i went over to danny’s dorm.

good luck on choosing a dslr! i’d go with canon. i’ve tried nikon and i like canon waaaay more. but some people will swear by nikon, so you know.. test them out! of course this will all sound like stupid talk if you are already using a film slr.

and some advice just in case you arent already using an slr, i’d get a cheaper lower end dslr (rebel xt)to start with (casue they are all basically the same) and spend more of your money getting a good lens. it’s mostly the glass that takes the sharp pictures, not the camera!

hmm…I missed that article or I would have TOTALLY commented on that sucker.  Okay.  I can’t really speak to the blurb without knowing the full context, but I’ll try.

Do I think the deliberate putting off of marriage is the great sin that besets our generation?  HELL NO.  People are DYING all over the world.  Marriage is great, it is a way to show God’s glory– the feast in heaven will be a wedding feast.  I myself want to get married some day.  Yet if it’s so great, why does Paul say if we can stand to be single, we should be, and, in his personal opinion, it is better to be single?  AND Jesus says that in the afterlife, there will be no marriage—vows end at death.  So why the fuss over an institution with no eternal significance?  It is NOT an obligation and IS something that some people are not called to, and that some people are called to later in life than others.

Now, I don’t mean to imply that I don’t think marriage is important and can bring things here on earth that will have eternal consequences.  I do.  But marriage doesn’t have the corner on important Christ-centered relationships, and I know I for one am not going to marry the first schmuck who comes along because I’m afraid of committing “the sin that besets this generation.”  So am I sinning?  I prefer to think of it as trusting in and waiting on God.

(Incidentally, I think the reason we have so many divorces is partly because people rush into marriage.  I come from a culture that prizes marriage as the end-all, be-all of life where people get married right after high school and a woman is nothing without a man.  Divorce is rampant.  People get married before they’re ready, and they realize that at around 20 and everything falls apart.  And who suffers most?  Their children.)

Do I think that delaying marriage can be sinful?  Yes.  But not because someone’s delaying marriage per se.  It’s all in the motivations behind the delay:  selfishness, fear, lack of faith in God’s provision, sinful attitudes toward women (she doesn’t have to be a ditzy supermodel to be worth your time, gentlemen…).  But in all those cases, delaying marriage is merely the symptom of an underlying disease.  Don’t take Tylenol when you really need antibiotics.

Anyway, I’ve got lots more to say, but hey.  This is becoming a post, not a comment.  But you wanted a comment.  So you brought this on yourself.
    Peace out, yo.  Mp  :yum:

I completely disagree with the article (ok, not completely, but probably most of the important points 😉 ).  But I think that he IS generalizing way too much.  One thing that God has been teaching me recently is that He made each of us UNIQUE and DIFFERENT and wonderful.  But because of our uniqueness and differences, I think that we are probably growing at different rates and ready for different things at different points in our lives (sometimes if at all).  Look at Ecclesiastes (I’m 90% sure that’s the book) where it talks about how there is a season for everything.  Frankly, I think that with the demographics the way they are, you need to get married LATER in life when you are emotionally mature enough to keep a marriage together.  Did you know that something ridiculous like 75% of couples married before the age of 21 (might be 18) get divorced? There’s a reason for that, they were too young to be mature enough.  Yes, some people are ready and they are just too chicked to grab God’s best plan for them, but by far, I would say waiting is much better before making a commitment you can not (at least by Christian standards) get out of.  I would NEVER EVER sign a contract without thinking carefully about the terms (and definately not now!!!) because once you sign, you’re committed and there’s no way to get out :p

There are so many things wrong with what this guy Albert Mohler (no, I don’t think he deserve the title Dr.)writes in the linked article, that one can write a term paper on it. I’ll just comment on his socalled scriptural support.
I don’t see any support in the bible for his statement. The only scriptural “support” that he cites for his statement is 1 Corinthians chapter 7. The word support is in quotation mark, because he kinda took the verses out of context and streched it to fit his statement. The rest is a call to restore the biblical mandate or something because you as a devout Christian should make a statement against the world.
I guess he is getting a lot of attention for making such a statement. :headbanger:
