——————————Some Thoughts—————————————-

I’ve been told that I’m very opinionated. Now I’m not sure if that’s a compliment or a criticism, but I’ll just leave it be. I’ve been gnawing on this international explosion about some cartoons of the prophet. Now, I’ll be the first to admit, I can very easily put my foot in my mouth and offend someone. But still I’m allowed to say what I think about whomever or whatever I want. This is America, right? We’ve made fun of presidents, government officials, racial stereotypes, and religious icons. I’ve seen many things I’d deem “sacrilege”, but I have not seen any widspread media focus on it.

Do I really care about the crazy extremist muslim’s point of view?

I mean seriously, we already know about all the militants out there… who want to make a point… of might makes right. But what about your typical muslim? What does (s)he think? Is it true that anyone who disrespects the prophet should die? Should we really enact laws to prohibit the defaming of _____ ? I cannot say that those who published those cartoons are right… but at the same time, is not the media coverage of the muslim response confirming these cartoons? The cartoons depicted how Mohammad is viewed as a threat… with a bomb in his turban. And these violent protests of muslims…. don’t they just confirm it? Are there no moderate muslims? Where is the media coverage of that??? How can your people justify bomb threats, death threats, and the destruction of several embassies? What kind of government do you have that you cannot or will not stop this kind of retaliation?

I don’t pretend to know what’s going on. I don’t pretend that I can see it from all perspectives. But I do know this… if those who see something going wrong, do nothing in response. They are not without responsibility. Wake up, America. Wake up and shine the light. Yes, there is a cost. But we may find the cost of inaction may be even higher than we bargained for…

 Comprehending Engineers – Take One

To the optimist, the glass is half full. To the pessimist, the glass is half empty. To the engineer, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

 Comprehending Engineers – Take Two
 *******************************
A pastor, a doctor and an engineer were waiting one morning for a particularly slow group of golfers. The engineer fumed, “What’s with these guys? We must have been waiting for 15 minutes!”

The doctor chimed in, “I don’t know, but I’ve never seen such ineptitude!”

The pastor said, “Hey, here comes the greenskeeper. Let’s have a word with him.” (dramatic pause)

“Hi Fred. Say, what’s with that group ahead of us? They’re rather slow, aren’t they?”

The greenskeeper replied, “Oh, yes, that’s a group of blind firefighters. They lost their sight saving our clubhouse from a fire last year, so we always let them play for free anytime.”

The group was silent for a moment.

The pastor said, “That’s so sad. I think I will say a special prayer for them tonight.”

The doctor said, “Good idea. And I’m going to contact my ophthalmologist buddy and see if there’s anything he can do for them.”

The engineer said, “Why can’t these guys play at night?”

What is the difference between Mechanical Engineers and Civil Engineers?

Mechanical Engineers build weapons, Civil Engineers build targets.

 Comprehending Engineers – Take Four
 *****************************
Three engineering students were gathered together discussing the possible designers of the human body. One said, “It was a mechanical engineer. Just look at all the joints.”

Another said, “No, it was an electrical engineer. The nervous system has many thousands of electrical connections.”

The last said, “Actually it was a civil engineer. Who else would run a toxic waste pipeline through a recreational area?”

 *****************************
 Comprehending Engineers – Take Five
 *****************************
“Normal people … believe that if it ain”t broke, don”t fix it. Engineers believe that if it ain”t broke, it doesn’t have enough features yet.”

 Comprehending Engineers – Take Six
 *****************************
An architect, an artist and an engineer were discussing whether it was better to spend time with the wife or a mistress.

The architect said he enjoyed time with his wife, building a solid foundation for an enduring relationship. The artist said he enjoyed time with his mistress, because of the passion and mystery he found there.

The engineer said, “I like both.”

“Both?” Engineer: “Yeah. If you have a wife and a mistress, they will each assume you are spending time with the other woman, and you can go to the lab and get some work done.”

 ********************************
 Comprehending Engineers – Take Seven
 ********************************
An engineer was crossing a road one day when a frog called out to him and said, “If you kiss me, I’ll turn into a beautiful princess”.

He bent over, picked up the frog and put it in his pocket. The frog spoke up again and said, “If you kiss me and turn me back into a beautiful princess, I will stay with you for one week.”

The engineer took the frog out of his pocket, smiled at it and returned it to the pocket. The frog then cried out, “If you kiss me and turn me back into a princess, I’ll stay with you and do ANYTHING you want.”

Again the engineer took the frog out, smiled at it and put it back into his pocket. Finally, the frog asked, “What is the matter? I’ve told you I’m a beautiful princess, that I’ll stay with you for a week and do anything you want. Why won’t you kiss me?”

The engineer said, “Look I’m an engineer. I don’t have time for a girlfriend, but a talking frog……. now that’s cool.”

once again, twiny, I totally agree with you and the one blogger.  Frankly, there has been incredible disrespect towards the person of Jesus Christ and we consider him to be our God!!!  I am hard pressed to be sympathetic to the rioters, even if I do agree the cartoons are in poor taste.  But poor taste, for better or worse, is not a crime :p….

*roll eyes* at the buying up flags :p

*grrr* on the marriage contract thing, I still say, if you misuse it, it should be taken away :p

*roll eyes* some more at the email postage thing…I think they’re idiots :p

on the Google thing…yeah, maybe but what about Yahoo? and some of the others? I think comparitively speaking Google’s still better :p

the church burnings are awful, and again, people might actually be hurt v. some cartoons…:p….*roll eyes* yet again

 Hi, this is my day of visiting sites that I subscribed to.

You have a righteous heart and very concerned on what our dying world is turning into. The end times are here– as Jesus has told us, we are seeing the signs of the times that He is coming to our rescue. There’s no escaping it— global warming, bird flu, aids, terrorism, calamities and many more.

I hope that through all of these, you always will find peace and joy in your heart. Our enemy and his cohorts have influenced millions and millions of humans who don’t have any idea what hit them. Jesus only asked us to spread His Good News in the hope that others can be saved before the obvious end come to their lives.

Many, many blessings from Jesus!! :headbanger::angel:

With freedom comes responsibility… as Richard Foster says, “… it is common in our day to define freedom as the complete absence of restraint.  Once we think about it – even for a moment – we realize how utterly ludicrous this idea really is.” He was not referring to freedom of speech, but I think the idea still applies.

I think the riots are a sign of growing worldwide tension.  And I know some moderate Muslims personally, who I’m sure are horrified at the violence.

    I like your eng jokes!

  4. Christians are constantly being made fun of…you don’t see us going nuts and killing other people.  It just goes to show how extreme some muslims are.

Hey Bro.. I am still overseas, just dropping and saw this note. I think to everything there are two side of the story. Fortunately it is a minor that is messing things up for the majority, not that it is any better the other way around either. I guess we can really keep praying for them, that their eyes will be opened and that they will come to know the saving grace of our Lord. :headbanger:

And these violent protests of muslims…. don’t they just confirm it? Are there no moderate muslims? Where is the media coverage of that???”

i think a chief danger that people fall into is taking their worldview through the lens of the media…especially the american media, which has a track record of playing certain images over and over, and cutting out other images (most likely those images of peaceful protests) which don’t get any coverage.

i dunno…have you tried talking to muslims around you to see how they feel?  philadelphia has a sizable muslim community.  it’s not that hard, if you are looking for what the “typical” muslim feels, to go up to a muslim to ask him/her how they feel…

“if those who see something going wrong, do nothing in response. They are not without responsibility. Wake up, America. Wake up and shine the light. Yes, there is a cost. But we may find the cost of inaction may be even higher than we bargained for…”

what kind of response are you looking for?…especially, what kind of a response are you looking for that would incur cost?  u mean…like….the global eradication of muslims?  another war?  or maybe just the global eradication of their religion?

and perhaps it would be a bit hypocritical for America to be the one “shining the light.”  because we are the ones who are the global distributors of violence in movies, tv shows, and video games.  we’re also the ones who haven’t owned up to our own dark past of violence against certain groups of our own people.  so….for America to be the one preaching non-violence to others…that sort of doesn’t work
