Forget American Idol, how about some GOD?

“This is what the LORD says –
   Israel’s King and Redeemer, the LORD Almighty:
I am the first and I am the last;
   apart from me there is no God.
Who then is like me? Let him proclaim it.
   Let him declare and lay out before me
what has happened since I established my ancient people,
   and what is yet to come –
   yes, let him foretell what will come.
Do not tremble, do not be afraid.
   Did I not proclaim this and foretell it long ago?
You are my witnesses. Is there any God besides me?
   No, there is no other Rock; I know not one.”

This is God calling earth. Do you copy? CallSign: Alpha Omega.

Can you mistake someone or something else for God? How do you recognize God?

1. Kingship. This is the one above all things… all powers, all kingdoms. Nothing can top him. You can be in denial, but there’s no mistaking God’s claim to ‘top of the heap’.

2. Redeemer. He is the one who has bought you from your slavery. The one who paid the price for our freedom. Freedom from the power of sin. The chains of guilt… Grab a hold of Him and you are truly free, more than any freedoms any kingdom or power on earth can grant.

3. He was around long before anyone else. First.

4. and He’ll be around long after everything is long gone. Last. (Maybe God even exists outside of time… just a cute little theory of mine…)

5. There is no other “GOD”. So a rose by any other name, most definitely does not smell as sweet… in this case anyway.

God knows our past… He knows where we are from, what we have experienced. He’s been with watching over us all this time, he would know. If you think a little bit of darkness hides some secret, think again.

God knows our future. He knows  where we are headed. He sees the problems before they appear, obstacles before they form, events before they play out.

God commands fear (read: respect) When we think about this awe-inspiring one watching over us. Seeing our sins and knowing about his view of justice, what is a human to do?

But God is more than just a deliverer of justice. He is also loving and caring. Do not be afraid. He’s on our side… if only we would let Him.

We are to bear witness before men of God. Who God is and what God wants. We are to be beacons of light, reflecting God’s love and the hope we all have in Jesus. To show all those who seek God, the Rock on which to cling in a world of shifting sands.

Stand firm with God. He will not move. Even if the entire world were to fall away, God will always be and He would like you to come along too…

Father, I pray that people would know Your character. Help me to show them how you are, by my actions and my words. Choose the words, I speak and guide my feet upon the path. Let me not stray from your ways, Lord, no matter what the temptation. Thank you for this time to see further into Your heart. May all good things come in good time. I pray this in the name of Him in whom we hope, Jesus. Amen.

Feeling poetic today… it’s a strange Monday alright… got woke up randomly twice tonite. Finally got up at 5 AM when I found myself awake regardless of whether my eyes were open or shut. Thank God I’m not even vaguely insomniatic. I’d go crazy.

God and Love… (This is a ramble. Consider yourself warned. ^_^)

Isn’t it strange how everyone can so easily believe in Love… but when you talk to them about God, they’re like… I dunno. Then again, maybe not. If you believe in Love, it doesn’t change you. But if you believe in God, you can’t help but be changed. You can’t sense either God or Love. can’t touch, see, taste, hear… Is cultural influence that strong? That we think love exists, just because there are all these songs about it?

If it’s popular, it must be true? If you read it in the paper, it must be correct?

I’ve been told that I’ve been brain-washed and taught to be close-minded. But who can really judge that? Is it just people are uncomfortable about Jesus and this is a ‘normal’ reaction?
Doesn’t brain-washed mean you can no longer think logically about something? That you cling to a belief… just because your mind refuses to let it go, even after all the logically proof?

Do we think out what we believe and live accordingly? or do we just live our lives the way we want and put together justifications for it later?

I know a God that is all about LOVE… He knows about sacrifice. And He wants the BEST for me. His constant companions are TRUTH, FAITH, HOPE, HOLINESS, and LOVE.
That is why I act the way I do. Why I keep fighting against the evil within my own heart… What is your answer to the darkness in your soul?

The place where every good Christian blurb should start… or return…
Christ. Jesus Christ.

If not for Him, everything is for moot. He is the foundation. If you don’t know Him yet, perhaps today would be a good day to go out of your way and meet Him. He won’t force you. But He will change you. And don’t say I didn’t warn you, but your life will never be the same.

Father, I dedicate this day into your hands. I pray that everything is as you wish. Help me to do what is right, even when I don’t feel like it. -= Day 1: A Purpose-Filled Life =-

“For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him.”

Arrogant… That’s the first thing that comes to mind when I read the NIV version of these words. Wow, this boy is cocky. But then I remember, this is God we’re talking about here. If anyone has any reason to be arrogant/ confident, it would be HIM.

So I read over this again, and it kinda hits me more like a statement of fact. Kinda like the feeling you get when someone says a truth you’d rather not hear: “You’re going to die.”

The first chapter of the book says that any search for purpose must start with God. If you try to start anywhere else, it will get you nowhere. The analogy used is the following. If you are (as Christians assume) a creation of God, God would be the person to know its purpose. How can an invention argue with the inventor?

We were created by him and for him.
Sheesh, talk about being slotted into a pigeon hole. God’s like: I made you and I made you for myself. God has a reason for everything and everyone. This isn’t just a random mix of chaos that it seems to be. God’s at work everywhere, we just need to look for his finger print…

Visible and invisible… just the thought of invisible stuff… guh. Viruses, bacteria, demons? All I can think is… what is all that for?? But I’ve gotta trust that God’s got a purpose for those as well….

Thones, powers, rulers, and authorities. God made all of these forces. Personally, I’d rather He kept those in design and never implemented them… but that’s this puny human talking. But it gets you thinking, what kind of power does God have?

things in heaven and on earth. God rules it all and God made it all. God is most definitely supreme. Yeah, there are plenty of things to offend people here. Where do tolerance and truth meet? How do you speak the truth without cramming it down someone’s throat? yeah… good stuff. ^_^

~ The touch of a cloak…

And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for tweleve years, but no one could heal her. She came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped.
“Who touched me?” Jesus asked.
When they all denied it, Peter said, “Master, the people are crowding and pressing against you.”
But Jesus said, “Someone touched me; I know that power has gone out from me.”
Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched him and how she had been instantly healed. Then he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.”

== Thoughts ==

When I go shopping, I’ve acquired this habit of “feeling” the clothes just to see what it feels like. After alot of touching and looking at labels, I’ve learned to be able to tell the difference between different kinds of fabric. (On a side note: Rayon still confuses me.) This got me thinking about the power of touch… and yea, here’s another post.

   Uncurable, unclean, and exiled. This is the situation of the woman who has been bleeding for tweleve years. According to Jewish law, any emissions from the body made the person unclean. So this woman was unclean according to the law. She was not allowed to come back into her household until a priest had declared her clean. While she is unclean, any one or any thing that she comes into contact will also become unclean. Think of “cooties” but on a much larger and painful scale… Your friends avoid you, your family does not visit you, you are exiled from your household. No one will touch you. And I do mean, No one…

   It has been twelve years of bleeding. You’ve gone from doctor to priest looking for anything to give you your life back. Healing water, prayers, rites, blessings, salves, poultices… and nothing has worked. You might have lost hope by this time, disheartened by all the empty promises, the rollercoaster of expectations, and all the past failures…

   Then you hear of a man… They call him, Jesus. Some believe he is a prophet, others say he is a follower of satan, still others think he is the Messiah. You may have heard of the lame walking, deaf hearing, weather obeying, blind seeing, leprosy cured, dead revived, demons rebuked and sins forgiven. Is it possible that this man really can help?

   So you seek him out. You follow the news till you find the crowds following him. You’ve heard from others that all it takes is a touch… just a touch. And no matter what is your affliction, you will be healed. You get closer, pushing your way through the crowd that surrounds him. You finally get close enough to see him. He looks like any other person, but he stands out. His manner is strong and his disciples watch him closely. He is friendly and warm, chatting with those closest to him. Finally, he’s close enough to touch. And with your heart in your throat, knowing how wrong it is for you to even touch him, you reach out and just touch a bit of his cloak…

   Immediately, you notice your bleeding has stopped. You slip back into the crowd, afraid that he will notice this unclean woman near him. But the crowd stops because the disciples and this man, Jesus have halted in their tracks. You pause, trying hard to melt back into the crowd quietly. Jesus speaks in a loud voice, stead and sure, “Who touched me?” Your mind races, you remember only touching his cloak, there was no way he could have known that you had touched his cloak ever so lightly… People around you deny having touched him. Even the disciples look doubtful. One of the disciples starts talking with Jesus, telling him that people were only crowding him. During this commotion, you move further away, only to hear Jesus speak again, “Someone touched me; I know that power has gone out from me.”

   The entire crowd goes quiet and still. The disciples look around wondering who this person could be. There’s no way you can leave now without the entire crowd noticing. Fear grips you and you imagine what a man with this large amount of follows could do… With your heart in your throat, you do the only option left to you, you walk over to him, go down on your knees and plead your case before him. You tell him about the 12 years of heartbreak, exile, and trials. You tell him of all the remedies you have tried, all the attempts that had failed. You tell him of brushing his cloak and of healing. The crowd and the disciples have all been quiet, watching this drama play out…

   You look up. And you see this man named Jesus smile. Then he says, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.” Red-faced and uncomfortable with the title of ‘daughter’, you get back on your feet. Wondering at this man who is somehow more than just a man…

Jesus can heal things that nothing on earth can heal. Seek him out, meet him, and you will find out for yourself.

Getting dressed…

The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkeness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Rather, clothe yourseves with the LORD Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature.

— Romans 13:12-14 (NIV) —

This post was inspired by a conversation I was having with a friend. We were talking about how if you weren’t dressed properly for an event, you almost felt naked somehow. It was like clothes act like armor or gives you a certain mindset. This was because I dressed up a bit more than she did when we went to go hang out. This was churning around in my brain for a bit and hence… Xanga post!

DEEDS OF DARKNESS
Yea, you and I both, know what the man’s talking about. Talk off all the sin in your life so you can put on the “armor of light” So sin takes power from you, you can have both sin as well as the armor of light on at the same time… so PICK ONE! ^.^

BEHAVE DECENTLY, AS IN THE DAYTIME
Act like you would in the daytime. This is when there is no shadows, no darkness, nothing to hide your deeds from the bright sunlight. Think of a time when there will be no more secrets, no more lies, nothing but truth and every word, every deed will be shown to all. This being said, avoid the bad stuff: orgies, drunkeness, debauchery, dissension and jealousy.

CLOTHE YOURSELVES WITH THE LORD JESUS CHRIST
Instead of all the crazy bad stuff, put on the good stuff. Bring on the JESUS, baby! Instead of thinking about all the stuff you desire, think instead of God, love, faith, joy, hope… “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things.” (Phil 4:8)

~Conclusion~

When you get dressed in the morning, make sure to put on your SUNDAY clothes! Jesus sees you every day of the week. May God bless you through His WORD!

Father, it’s been a long while since we’ve talked last. Thanks for hanging around and always being there to answer the door when I knock. Help me to follow You better, my Lord. To be a good and faithful servant of all I know to be good and right in this world where nothing is what it seems & up seems down. I want to be single, Lord, but there are plenty of pitfalls, I’m not sure if this is to test what I know to be true, or if you are willing me in another direction. Father, show me Your will. I know you wish me no harm, help me from misstepping. Place my feet upon Your path. I have some people I would like to pray for today. FC is stressed and is having some health concerns right now, I pray that you will soothe her and give her Your peace. May she come to know You better during her times of trouble as a source of strength. LC is trying to do well in school. May she glorify You through her grades and not be distracted from the important tasks at hand by all the things happening around her. I pray that You will keep her centered on you and on the straight and narrow path. AB is comming to very important family decisions. I pray that You will give him insight and wisdom for the days ahead. D, recently asked me why I believe in You. I pray that those plain words I spoke represented You well. I was truly unprepared for that question, even though I seem to ask others often enough. Help me be better prepared to talk about You with my friends and family. I pray all this in the name of our Shephard, Jesus. Amen.

What a woman…

   Before he had finished praying, Rebekah came out with her jar on her shoulder. She was the daughter of Bethuel son of Milcah, who was the wife of Abraham’s brother Nahor. The girl was very beautiful, a virgin; no man had ever lain with her. She went down to the spring, filled her jar and came up again.
   The servant hurried to meet her and said, “Please give me a little water from your jar.”
   “Drink, my lord,” she said, and quickly lowered the jar to her hands and gave him a drink.
   After she had given him a drink, she said, “I’ll draw water for your camels too, until they have finished drinking.” So she quickly emptied her jar into the trough, ran back to the well to draw more water and drew enough for all his camels.
   Without saying a word, the man watched her closely to learn whether or not the LORD had made his journey successful.

I read this passage because my little survey before got me thinking about what characteristics did matchmakers use to find a wife. After reading and chewing on this awhile, I couple of things stood out to me.

~ Strong ~

This lady is no slacker. Can you seriously imagine grabbing a jar full of water (not even a bucket!), twice a day for the household, everyday… and not being one buff chica? Add on top of that, she offers to water 10 thristy camels till they stop drinking… Oh yeah, this lady is pumped.

~ Beautiful ~

Why is it that right next to beautiful, you find the word, virgin? Beauty as in moral upstanding? I’m thinking this isn’t just some pale, willow-y beauty. We’re talking strong, beautiful female here… But it is really strange that it doesn’t say she was pleasing to the eye… too deep for me I guess.. :-/

~ Character ~

What kind of girl would go out of her way to help a stranger? If you were a beautiful young girl food shopping, would you stop to help a stranger who asked for assistance? Of course, during these times, it was considered good manners to give water to those who asked politely for it. But to offer to water 10 thirsty camels without having the stranger ask… Reminds me of something Jesus said: “And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.” (Matt 5:40-42) Give till it hurts… in Jesus’ case, it was give till it bleeds…

~ Caring/Kindness ~

This is simple… If she’s got the heart to take care of some thirsty camels, who does that say about her heart? If she’ll take care of animals that well, it’s a pretty good bet she’s going to treat people better.

~ Action ~

From the last parts of this passage, I visualize this guy looking carefully to see how she acts and what she does. He asks for water and stays silent after that. Watching this beautiful lady to see if her heart matches her looks? Seeing how she treats the camels, watching how she handles lugging this jug back and forth…

I was staring at all these cute little survey’s that people have been doing and I thought hey… maybe there’s something worth looking into here. So I took a little time and made one that might actually be worth the time spent filling it out (IMHO anyway) I haven’t put up my answers yet, but I figured I would post it up anyway. Hope it gets some grey matter churning. God bless!

P.S. I’m not trying to guilt trip anyone, so before you even ask, the answer is no. Some of these questions make me uncomfortable just thinking about them. But then again, perhaps that’s the point. I’ve come so far… yet I have such a ways to go, thank God I don’t have to do it alone.
